Do you like to write? Can you manufacture a creative story on your own, and do it on a regular basis for no other reason than to simply write? have nothing to do with these excellent works of fiction? Then this is the contest for you.

That's right, it's the first Sour Grunt Writing Contest! If you have talent for fiction writing, and no creative outlet to use it for, enter here. The rules are simple:
1. Follow the theme of the round (see later part of post).
2. 15-20 pages minimum, typed in Microsoft Word, with a maximum of 100 pages.
3. Follow realism; no laser phazers in WWII, no teleporter machines in modern day. This rule, however, applies soley for this initial round because of the theme, and even then, within set limits.
4. There must be a title. As if you wouldn't write one anyway.

The theme for this round is:
WAR. A bloody conflict between opposing factions. This can either be a real war, one set in an existing fictional universe (essentially fanfiction, but actually decent), or one created yourself. It can be about anything; infantry battles, naval warfare, or even space.

If you decide to do one grounded in reality or fanfic, you must adhere to that reality. Again, no laser guns in WWII, and if you tell me an Imperial Guard Sentinel is an Artillery piece or a Banshee is a walker, you lose big points. Trust me, I'll know. Also, if it follows your own universe, all bets for realism are off. However, plagiarism will not be tolerated, and any infraction on this will be dealt with harshly.

Also, let it be known at the beginning of your piece-preferably before/after the title-what war you are doing, if it is your own design, etc.

Prizes for winning: Your piece displayed on the forums for a timespan of 2 weeks for others to marvel at and read at their leisure (let me know if you'd rather it not be posted), and possibly rep. Details on that later.

All entries are due by March 1, 2009. PM Lenin64 for submission details and if you have any questions, either pm or post here. I am the sole authority on this at the moment, so all questions come to me.

Ooh, perfect idea! I think I'd definitely like to put in an entry here. A few questions:

1. A full story? Do you want a beginning to a story, or a war story crammed into 2-7 pages? Even with seven pages, that's one damn short story.
2. Are you looking for any judges?

Hm, yea, I'm rethinking the requirements for length. I just wrote a research paper that was 7 pages long, and I could have had so much more in there. Maybe 15-20 minimum without a max of 100.

Judges, hm, depends on the given number of entries, but 1 more person besides myself will at least give a more fair judging.

Ill be a judge if you need one, but remember i have a very short attention span so keep your story within 10 pgs plz. Srsly, keep em 10 pages that sounds like a fair amount right?

The only problem is that it seems as if I'm the only one interested in the contest. If a few people did it, I'd volunteer myself to judge some. Maybe the judges should be able to enter the contest as well?

Perhaps, but then they have no say when judging in their own work. Just to keep it all balanced.

This is just a suggestion, but we could put up all of the entries for the community to vote on them. That might be asking a lot, though, as they'll probably be really long.

Oh, yea, I forgot about this. Well, no entries have been given. Closed now.
